Virgin Gorda, BVI

Virgin Gorda is the third largest of the British Virgin Islands (behind Tortola and Anegada), and has the second largest population. Christopher Columbus is said to have named the island “The Fat Virgin”, from the horizon the island’s profile looks like a fat woman lying on her side.

Charter to Virgin Gorda

Virgin Gorda is home to “The Baths”, also known as the 8th Wonder of the World. At The Baths, the beach shows evidence of the island’s volcanic origins, as huge granite boulders stand in formations on the beach, forming scenic grottoes that are open to the sea. This is a must see for everyone! Top of the Baths restaurant offers a great lunch option, and there is shopping and a grocery store in Spanish Town. Swimming in to the Baths, which is the most popular option, requires about a 30 yard swim. There are “swim lines” that are used to keep boats out, which can be used to help assist you to the beach. You’ll want to have a dry bag with you if you intend to bring any valuables (camera/wallet etc…) into the Baths. You also have the option of docking in Spanish Town and taking a taxi to the Baths. This requires a little more time, and will cost approximately $12-$14 per person for the taxi ride plus any docking fees in Spanish Town (usually $20-$40). This is a good option if you have anyone in the group who is not a good swimmer, or if you are wanting to have lunch at Top of the Baths restaurant after exploring.

Please keep in mind that Virgin Gorda is the furthest destination that day charter boats go to (approximately 25 miles from St John),  and is not always accessible when the wind and seas are up. Your experienced captain will make the call if the sea conditions are unsafe to make the journey. Please keep in mind that the Baths are an hour in each direction from St John or St Thomas (not including clearing customs), and allow for one or two more stops along the way. Sunshine Daydream Charters offers an “extended day” charter, which is recommended for guests wanting to visit the Baths.
